Recently, two panel manufacturers, LG Display and AUO, disclosed their first-half performance.
■ Revenue of 60 billion, LG Display discloses first half results
Recently, LG Display announced its financial data for the second quarter and the first half of 2025. Revenue was 11.652 trillion won (about 60.59 billion yuan), a slight decrease of 3% year-on-year; net profit was -82.6 billion won (about -430 million yuan), a year-on-year decrease of 85%.
■ Revenue of 21.922 billion yuan, AUO continues to expand the application of Micro LED
AUO previously announced that its consolidated revenue in June this year was 21.922 billion yuan (about RMB 5.33581 billion), a monthly decrease of 9.3% and an annual decrease of 13.1%. Its consolidated revenue in the second quarter was 69.237 billion yuan, a quarterly decrease of 4% and an annual decrease of 6.8%. AUO's cumulative consolidated revenue in the first half of this year was 141.339 billion yuan (about RMB 34.402 billion), an annual increase of 5.6%.
This year, AUO has continued to expand the application of Micro LED, combining it with AI applications, targeting the fields of television, information technology (IT), and automotive, and has won orders from major manufacturers such as Samsung and Sony Mobility.
AUO said that the focus of display technology is not only on quantity, but also on more combined applications with AI. 2024 is the year when AUO Micro LED will move from technology development to marketization and mass production, from R&D line to completion of the 4.5-generation mass production line layout of Longtan Plant. In addition, AUO Micro LED has contacted customers for orders in TV, IT, and automotive. Among them, the order from Japanese company Sony Mobility is a key product produced by AUO's 4.5-generation line. It is planned that new cars that introduce AUO Micro LED products will be launched in the United States in the second half of 2026.
In addition, AUO's 114-inch spliced Micro LED TV has been delivered to Samsung. AUO is optimistic that transparent display is also a key application. Micro LED does not replace mainstream products, but uses its characteristics to open up new application markets, helping customers obtain higher pricing and simultaneously contributing to future profits, which will be higher than revenue.
