Bistable Zero-Power Retention

Once written, micro-particles stay locked in place. Power is strictly required during pixel state transition cycles, enabling 5+ year runtime on coin-cells.

Standby Draw < 0.003 mW

Paper-Grade Sunlight Contrast

Pure ambient light reflection replaces power-hungry LED backlights. Direct sunlight actually increases contrast ratio without washout or thermal degradation.

Bistable E-Paper
  • done
    Infinite Static Image Retention:

Retains zero-power image retention for months. Energy consumed exclusively during micro-particle migration.

  • done
    Superior Ambient Glare Resistance:

High specular reflectance mimicking ink on clean white paper. Readable under 100,000 Lux desert sunlight.

  • done
    Micro-Power Battery Profile:

Draws less than 1µA during deep sleep mode. Easily powered for 3-7 years on a single CR2450 coin cell.

  • info
    Discrete Refresh Cadence:

Takes 1.5s for full refresh; 0.3s for partial updates. Not suitable for rapid video or motion animations.

Optimal Fit: Electronic price tags, remote environmental monitors, smart energy meters, identification badges, low-duty cycle telemetry dashboards.

    Requires Continuous Drive Voltage:

Immediate image loss upon power cut. Liquid crystals relax instantly without constant AC polarity reversal.

  • close
    Sunlight Washout & High Heat:

Direct solar rays overpower standard 300-500 nits backlights, rendering graphics unreadable without high backlight draw.

  • close
    Heavy Baseline Current Drain:

LED backlights consistently draw 15-40mA continuously, depleting primary coin cells within days.

  • done
    High Dynamic Frame Rates:

Supports 60Hz video playback, fluid waveform oscilloscopes, and real-time interactive touch sliders.

Optimal Fit: Industrial touch HMIs, medical vital signs monitors with continuous graphs, hand-held gaming devices, automotive navigation clusters.

Embedded System Quickstart

Hardware Interface & Pin Definition

Follow these integration rules to achieve stable bus communication with ESP32, STM32, Arduino Uno/Nano, and Raspberry Pi platforms.

1

Verify Supply & Logic Rail (2.3V - 3.6V)

While our PCB module features integrated level clamp diodes, running native 3.3V logic (e.g. ESP32, STM32) maximizes efficiency. For 5V Arduino Uno boards, ensure proper level matching on DIN and CLK lines.

2

Standard 4-Wire SPI Hardware Setup

Connect DIN to Host MOSI, CLK to Host SCK, CS to any active-low GPIO, and D/C to command/data selector GPIO. Set SPI Mode 0 (CPOL=0, CPHA=0).

3

BUSY Pin Interfacing (Critical for Life Expectancy)

Never issue SPI commands while the BUSY output pin is High (indicating internal charge pump booster activity). Wait for BUSY to transition Low before next packet.

4

Deep Sleep Power Command (0x10)

Always issue software Deep Sleep command after screen refresh completion. This shuts down on-board high-voltage generation circuits, dropping module current below 1µA.
